Salon treatments with color or heat can sometimes damage hair

WHAT:  HairScan™ is a new, highly-sophisticated hair analysis test which measures tiny changes in the thickness of hair along a single hair shaft.  By looking at subtle changes in hair shaft diameter or cross-sectional shape over the entire length of a single strand of hair, the response (or non-response) to various "hair growth" treatments may be measured.  

HOW:  Similar to how a CT or MRI compiles thousands of slices down the length of the human body, HairScan™ uses a laser to measure the diameter the hair shaft producing approximately 100 cross-sectional measurements for every inch of hair. Over the length of the hair, this gives a 'picture' of how well your hair follicle is producing the hairshaft.

"Is your Hair Growth Treatment Working?"

WHY:  Hair loss is most commonly characterized by a gradual reduction in hair quality (thickness, length and pigmentation) over time before hair production ceases from the hair follicle.  Because hair grows slowly, approximately 1/2 to 3/4 inch month, it normally takes 6-12 months to appreciate a response to hair growth treatments through casual observation or standardized photos.  HairScan™, on the other hand, performed on a few strands of hair in an area of hair thinning should be able to detect improvements in hair quality within just weeks of starting therapy.
