South Florida Doctor Tests Treatment For Thinning Hair

Dr. Alan Bauman is well known in the field of hair transplantation, so he wasn't surprised when a Fortune 500 company came to him asking if he would put a soon-to-be-released product to the test.

"They said they had something that could be revolutionary for women with thin or thinning hair. This is not for hair growth, but something that would actually affect existing strands, and that had me intrigued," he said.

Bauman is putting the product to the test on 100 women, ages 35-65.

We are pleased to announce that our independent clinical trial on Pantene's AgeDefy Hair Thickening Treatment was completed in 2012 and the product is now available on store shelves. The results of the clinical trial have been presented at a variety of international events as the product has launched into the global market over the past year. The clinical trial proved the hair thickening effect of the product, improved hairstyling, increases in scalp coverage and excellent user-satisfaction. The improvement in average hair mass in the clinical trial participants was equal to the effect of adding 6500 hair fibers. Scientists' 'vampire treatment' for baldness - Bauman Medical Group

The research, published in the latest edition of the British Journal of Dermatology, was conducted among a group of people suffering from alopecia areata, which affects about 2 per cent of the population.

However, the scientists believe it could also help those suffering more common varieties, such as male-pattern baldness. Dr Fabio Rinaldi said: “We think it can help to regrow hair on people with androgenic alopecia (male-pattern baldness). We believe it is the best treatment available, apart from surgery.”

The study involved 45 patients, who received the injections on just one half of their head. Some were given the PRP, some were given a more traditional steroid treatment, while others received a placebo.

Vampire PRP Platelet Rich Plasma Hair Growth treatments are working to help those suffering from alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss). Unlocking the powerful proteins and growth factors within the platelets and injecting them into the scalp stimulates improved hair growth from weaker follicles. At Bauman Medical Group, our staff have been fully certified to provide Autologel PRP by Cytomedix since 2011. We also use PRP combined with ACell, an extracellular matrix product. When can you expect to see results with LaserCap Laser Therapy?

When can you expect to 'see' results with Laser Therapy treatments like LaserCap?

Because hair fibers are produced from hair follicles at a growth rate of about 1cm per month, even with consistent use of Laser Therapy it can take six to twelve MONTHS to see visible changes in your hair in the mirror.  However, by using an accurate scientific measuring device like HairCheck which takes cross-sectional hair bundle (Hair Mass Index) measurements, it becomes easy to monitor your scalp's response to laser therapy in just a few weeks and track your improvement over time... before its noticeable to the naked eye. HairCheck measurements can be performed at Bauman Medical Group or by a Certified HairCoach near you.

Sometimes, one area of the scalp improves more than another… many patients ask "why?"
The answer is that the improvement with Laser Therapy treatment with LaserCap will be proportional to the amount of weak hair in a given area.  The higher numbers of weaker hair follicles, the greater the improvement in Hair Mass Index. If the density in a given area is very weak, improvements will be less dramatic.  In addition, if the hair density and thickness is excellent in a given area of scalp, the improvement in that location will also be less dramatic.  It may seem counterintuitive, but just like other non-invasive treatments like Minoxidil (Formula 82M, etc.) and PRP+ACell, the response in each area will be proportional to the amount of hair that can be modulated or improved.  High-powered magnification of the scalp or Dermoscopy with a device like the HairCam can help your hair loss specialist determine which areas are likely to respond to non-invasive treatment and which areas will need minimally-invasive hair transplantation with NeoGraft FUE
At Bauman Medical Group, during your hair loss consultation Dr. Bauman will evaluate several areas of your scalp using HairCheck measurements and HairCam micro-dermoscopy and prescribe a treatment plan based on your hair loss status in each area and hair restoration goals.

FUE NeoGraft Advanced Hair Transplant FAQ's

Hair Transplant Advances:  Minimally Invasive NeoGraft FUE - FAQ’s

What is NeoGraft FUE Hair Transplant?

NeoGraft FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a minimally invasive approach to hair restoration that no longer requires the removal of a linear ‘strip’ of scalp.  Individual groups of follicles as small as a single hair are comfortably harvested and permanently redistributed into thinning areas. A combination of surgical skill and artistry delivers a 100% natural hair transplant result that is never ‘pluggy’ and never obvious because there's no linear scar to hide. Downtime is so comfortable and quick that you can return to most athletic activities in just three days.  Dr. Alan J. Bauman has been performing FUE since 2001 and was the first board-certified hair transplant surgeon to use the NeoGraft routinely for his patients, dating back to 2007.  Dr. Bauman is one of the most experienced FUE surgeons in the world and has offered no-scalpel, no-stitch FUE to his patients for over a decade.

Rolston, Kevin Before & 6 Months After NeoGraft FUE

Do I need to shave my head for NeoGraft FUE?

No. For small sessions of transplantation, the harvested area can easily be hidden under your existing length of hair in the back of the scalp.  However, if you want the maximum number of grafts transplanted per session, a larger area would be shaved.

Will someone know I had the procedure done?

No. If you have the ability to wear a hat other headwear or stay out of sight for about a week, you can keep the procedure a complete secret.  Cosmetic recovery takes approximately one week for the vast majority of patients.

Is NeoGraft FUE available for men and women?

Yes. Both men and women can enjoy the benefits of the less invasive NeoGraft FUE hair transplant procedure.  See male results and female results.

Can NeoGraft FUE be used for eyebrows and Body Hair Transplantation?

Yes. In most cases, eyebrow transplants can be performed using the less-invasive NeoGraft FUE approach.  NeoGraft FUE can also be used to harvest beard and other body hair in cases where the supply of scalp donor hair is limited.

Modern Medical Treatments and Procedures for Hair Loss

For most men, having a full head
of hair is what makes them feel
confident, handsome and, well, sexy.
Good hair is a reason why thousands
of women swoon over hunky
Hollywood actors like Brad Pitt
and Tom Cruise and it’s kind of
like your right arm, you just assume
it will always be there.
But what if it isn’t?
According to the American Hair
Loss Association, by the age of 50,
approximately 85 percent of men
will suffer from male pattern baldness
and, for some men it starts
sooner rather than later. And while
some men can pull off the shaved head
look, for others, even in their
20s, baseball caps, cowboy hats or
sunglasses on their heads become
everyday accessories as they try to
shield their balding pates.

Modern Technology Making Baldness a Thing of the Past - Boca Raton Observer Magazine by Alan J Bauman MD

Fortunately the days of resorting
to terrible toupees and poorly done
plugs have disappeared, as today’s
modern technology offers delicate
hair transplant surgeries from doctors
so precise they’re certain no one can
detect the surgery even happened.
Sound iffy?
Meet Steve, a Palm Beach County
man in his 30s who had hair transplantation
six months ago.
He already feels like a different
person with his new head of hair and
if you saw him today, he promises no
one would be able to tell he was once
on the verge of baldness.
“I don’t feel like I’m the most
superficial person in the world, but
it just bothers you when you’re a
guy and you start losing hair,” says
Steve. “I had no confidence at all.
It messes with you mentally. Now I
already feel more confident. It was
100 percent worth it.”
