What kind of hair growth results can I expect from PRP Platelet Rich Plasma?

Q: What kind of hair growth results can I expect from PRP Platelet Rich Plasma?
A: Thank you for your thoughtful questions regarding my PRP protocols for hair regrowth and the results you can expect.
I am assuming you are asking for yourself as a male patient…?
From my experience, PRP with ECM or Extracellular Matrix in our hands at Bauman Medical appears to stimulate better hair growth from the follicles that are weak/miniaturize, while at the same time protecting those follicles that are at risk for a certain period of time.
When it comes to genetic male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia, there are many stages and speeds of progression in patients. While 90% of patients receive a positive response from our treatment, the “results” of PRP are most visible and measurable in areas when applied into an area where there is a large number of weak follicles. Therefore, it most common that some areas of the scalp may improve more than others.
As an example, areas that are severely depleted of hair, i.e., low density, don’t respond as well because there are fewer follicles in the area that can improve. This is especially true of a receded hairline for example. Areas that have yet to be affected by male pattern hair loss are protected, but they won’t appear much different after the treatment--just the same, which is a good thing!
The most important things to know about all non-invasive treatments (minoxidil, finasteride, laser therapy, PRP, etc.) are that they do NOT create new hair follicles, they need to be continued over time to maintain results, and results should be routinely measured in the office with a scientific device like a HairCheck trichometer to determine how and where you are responding to the treatment.
Whether or not PRP should be used as a stand-alone therapy as an alternative to, or in combination with other treatments would be something we would discuss at the time of the consultation. Through a formal consultation, I would have a better understanding of your hair loss status and goals.
I hope this information helps and I look forward to assisting you with your hair restoration goals. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
