LOS ANGELES, CA ( release ) THE DOCTORS, from Stage 29 Productions and CBS Television Distribution, picked up its first Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show: Informative at the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which were broadcast live from the Las Vegas Hilton and televised on CBS Sunday evening, June 27th.

Jay McGraw, creator and executive producer of the syndicated talk show, was on hand to accept the award, along with series' hosts Dr. Travis Stork, Dr. Andrew Ordon, Dr. Lisa Masterson, and Dr. Jim Sears, Co-Executive Producer Andrew Scher, and several members of the producing team.

During his acceptance speech, McGraw thanked his father and fellow executive producer of THE DOCTORS, Dr. Phil McGraw, for his guidance in making THE DOCTORS the show that it is.

Just returned from this year's Orlando Live Surgery Workshop (OLSW) sponsored by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).   The 16th annual installation of this event certainly did not disappoint!   The four-day marathon of lectures and surgery keeps you energized and on your toes.  This year, I was invited to present two lectures and perform two surgical procedures at the conference: Eyelash Transplantation and NeoGraft/FUE Hair Transplant Surgery.  

Having performed FUE at the OLSW back in 2003  (and struggled to do it manually, I might add!) it was certainly exciting to debut the automated NeoGraft Hair Transplant Device at the Orlando Live Surgery Workshop for the first time this year in HD video and 'in-use' on a live patient.  In about one hour of extraction time, we harvested 357 grafts with less than 3.5% transection per follicle and 2.2% transection per graft.   

It was also a pleasure lecturing and performing cosmetic Eyelash Transplant on our good friend and colleague, Dr. Denise Baker--a wonderful physician and a great patient!

The Bauman Medical Group staff and I are getting ready for next week's 16th Annual ISHRS Live Surgery Workshop in Orlando, Florida. Always a great learning experience, the interaction between hair transplant physicians who share their thoughts, approach and techniques the OLSW over the years is always 'worth the trip.' As an invited faculty member again this year, I am scheduled to lecture on and demonstrate the following hair transplant procedures/techniques:

1) FUE Hair Transplant using NeoGraft compared to other self-rotating devices.

2) Cosmetic and Reconstructive Eyelash Transplants

Uma breve volta por uma loja de cosméticos mostra o valor que as mulheres dão aos cílios. Basta notar a imensa variedade de marcas e modelos de máscaras para cílios que alongam, dão volume, curvam, colorem... Vale tudo para valorizar o olhar. O problema é que algumas mulheres não conseguem o efeito desejado nem com o mais poderoso dos makes por terem falhas ou ausência de fios na região, cílios curtos ou com pouco volume. A solução nesse caso é o transplante de cílios, uma cirurgia pouco divulgada no Brasil. Isso mesmo, assim como existe o transplante capilar para resolver a calvície, existe também a cirurgia para resolver o problema na região dos olhos. O conceito é o mesmo: retirar fios de uma área para implantar em outra.

Fio-a-fio

A área doadora de fios é a região da nuca. Como eles geralmente são longos, existe uma técnica exclusiva para essa situação. "A faixa retirada é preparada no microscópio para a separação dos folículos que serão implantados. Para a implantação são usados os fios de cabelo compridos que são passados pela borda das pálpebras como se fossem linhas de costura, deixando as raízes implantadas. Então, são cortados no comprimento desejado", explica a dermatologista Christiane Graf Guimarães, especialista em reconstrução e transplante capilar (PR).

Caso os fios de cabelo sejam curtos, a técnica de implantação é feita como no transplante convencional. "Os folículos são removidos do couro cabeludo e implantados na linha dos cílios, um ou dois por vez", explica o cirurgião plástico americano Alan J. Bauman. "Hoje, podemos transplantar mais de 100 cílios por pálpebra", complementa o médico.

A anestesia usada é local com sedação e os exames pré-operatórios seguem a mesma rotina de outras cirurgias.
